Exhibition 19 January - 10 March 2012

 


This timely exhibition focuses on textiles and explores labour, capital, international trade and radical politics. In the 19th Century Karl Marx’s account of the cotton industry tracked fifty years of boom and bust and the effects this had on workers in Britain and its colonies, in particular India. Contemporary artwork by Sudhir Patwardhan and Alice Creischer is shown alongside journals by Marx, chintz, Company Paintings and mill workers' audio recordings.
